Frequently Asked Questions

There’s no such thing as a “silly question” here. Most of our clients came in with the same worries you have now — from “Am I too out of shape?” to “Will this hurt?” Our job is to help you feel safe, supported, and ready to move forward.

If you don’t see your answer here, reach out. Or better yet, schedule a consultation so we can talk about your unique goals and concerns.

Getting Started

I've never done Pilates before. Will I look foolish?

Not at all. Every teacher at Studio KDRx remembers their first class. Your first session is about learning, not performing. We’ll walk you through everything, at a pace that feels comfortable for you.

If you have a body, Pilates is for you. We’ve worked with people in their 20s all the way to their 80s, with chronic pain to competitive athletes. The beauty of classical Pilates is that every exercise can be adapted to every condition, fitness level, and stage of life.

We start by listening to your history, your concerns, and your goals. Then, we’ll introduce gentle movements to see how your body responds. No pressure. No judgment. Just a thoughtful beginning.

Comfortable clothes that you can move in. Nothing too loose or baggy. We have all the equipment you need. Grippy socks are not required but may be used if desired.

You can just bring yourself and an open mind.

Even the strongest bodies have blind spots. Pilates sharpens alignment, improves breath control, prevents injuries, and balances strength with mobility. That’s why professional dancers, athletes, and performers rely on it.

Logistics

Where should I park?

Street parking is available on the east side of Oxford Street. Please note we’re located in a Heights High School zone, so parking is restricted on the west side from 7 AM-4 PM on school days. You’ll typically find a spot within a block of the studio.

Enter through the side gate and French doors on the north side of the building (facing the residential area). Look for our studio signage to guide you to the correct entrance.

Our address is 1437 Oxford Street Houston, TX 77008.

You can pay by Venmo, Zelle, cash, check or credit card on location.

Yes! We’ve partnered with TrueMed to make Pilates more accessible for those with qualifying health conditions. If you have conditions like chronic pain, arthritis, back problems, or other medical issues that Pilates can help address, you may be eligible to use your HSA funds for our classes. Contact us to learn more about eligibility and the simple enrollment process.

Please arrive 5-10 minutes early for your first visit to get oriented. If you’re running behind, give us a quick call/text at 832-472-2818 so we can hold your spot.

About Your Body & Concerns

I have chronic pain. Will Pilates make it worse?

We would never ask you to push through pain. Gimell’s nursing and therapy background and Kristen’s expertise at Neurokinetic Therapy mean we understand how to work safely with pain conditions. We’ll modify everything to work with your body, not against it. Many clients even feel relief after just a few sessions.

Absolutely. Flexibility isn’t a requirement. It’s one of the results. Many clients couldn’t touch their toes when they started. Today, they move with ease.

Yes, with your doctor’s clearance. Our team understands healing timelines and will tailor every movement to your stage of recovery. We’ll never rush or push you.

That’s exactly when you should begin. Some of our most powerful transformations have come from people who thought they were “too far gone.” Your starting point is the right point.

Our Approach & Method

What makes you different from other studios?

We are not a commercial gym. We are a home-based studio in Houston Heights that starts with consultation, not class placement. Every session is personal. And when your body needs support beyond Pilates (massage, reflexology, injury assessment, or bodywork), we can provide it.

Classical Pilates. We follow Joseph Pilates’ original method, using authentic Gratz equipment. Every movement follows the principles of breath, concentration, centering, control, precision, and flow.

We break it down, take it to another apparatus that is more appropriate for you, or select a similar exercise that achieves the same result.

Sessions & Scheduling

What's the difference between private and semi-private?

Private sessions give you our complete, undivided attention. They’re perfect if you have injuries, complex conditions, or specific goals. Semi-private sessions let you share the experience (and cost) with another person while still getting personalized attention.

That depends on your goals, your schedule, your other exercise commitments, and your wallet.  Three times per week is ideal and can create incredible changes. Most people benefit from twice-per-week workouts. The results are slower when doing pilates once per week but with Neurokinetic Therapy, we have been able to make substantial changes.

Healing takes time and consistency. Packages offer significant savings and allow us to create a longer-term plan for your progress. But start wherever feels right. You can always add more sessions later.

Results & Expectations

How quickly will I see results?

Every body is different. Some people feel changes after their first session, others take a few weeks or months. We’re more interested in sustainable, lasting change than quick fixes.

Better mobility, reduced pain, improved strength, better posture and increased confidence in your body. But the real transformation is often how you feel — more at home in your body, more trust in what it can do. Aesthetics is not our primary goal but within a few weeks, you may look better or thinner because of improvements in posture.

We’ve worked with everything from chronic back pain to post-surgical recovery to athletic performance enhancement. While we can’t guarantee specific outcomes, we can promise to work safely and thoughtfully with whatever you bring us.

Neurokinetic Therapy

Can I come for Neurokinetic Therapy only?

Absolutely! While Neurokinetic Therapy (NKT) pairs beautifully with Pilates for long-term results, you can absolutely book standalone sessions. Many clients start with NKT to address specific pain patterns or movement issues, then decide if they’d like to add other services.

Neurokinetic Therapy (NKT) is a corrective movement system that identifies and fixes dysfunctional movement patterns in the body. Through muscle testing, we identify which muscles are overworking (often causing pain) and which are underworking, then retrain your nervous system to move more efficiently.

Massage relaxes tight muscles. NKT goes deeper as it reprograms movement patterns instead of just treating symptoms. It’s detective work for your body, teaching it to move the way it was designed to.
